I Saw You/New Person
In this Undergrad Workshop, I designed a set for a 1950's home where not everything is normal in the second part. The concept of heteronormality is brought about as the main character has a TV show host living in their mind and creating chaos during the play.
The signs were rotated from the colorful diamonds to the tv error style to show the new state of mind of the main character.

Cupid Tyrannous
Cupid Tyrannous is a new play workshop by an undergraduate student that revolved around the world of the greek gods. Cupid makes a bet with Zeus that they will be able to find their other half on Earth and proceeds to shoot every mortal with their bow. Throughout the course of the play, Cupid's chiton goes from white to black. To avoid costs, the chiton was changed from white to red and the other actors, through the play, rubbed ground up chalk onto the fabric.
The columns, made with wax paper, were painted with gesso in places to tape to the cat walks and stage to prevent them from moving as the actors walked by.

Symphony, Fall 2021
Symphony was a new play workshop by an undergraduate student that discussed a child using their toys as a grounding while her uncle is down stairs fighting with the father for cheating. Originally, during some scenes there was to be a montage in the background with black and white photos flashing to the music's tempo. This was cut early on, but I was able to develop it a little.
As a majority of the play took place within the child's mind, the set was mainly empty to portray the mind's void like atmosphere.

Home Garden, Fall 2019
Home Garden was a new play workshop by an UIowa undergraduate dealing with the relationship of two lesbians and the uncertainty of wanting a child. The show had a garden as a main location in which a magical baby appeared from th large center stage flower (see more in properties). Stage left was the other location throughout the show such as the destist office, painting studio, and living room.
Carmen, Fall 2020

Act 2: TavernAct 4: Town Square Theatre ViewWith this design, I was inspired by German expressionism that evolved into this stylized design. As the play moves on in the plot, the set becomes less and less to visually show the tragedy and the deaths occurring through the color.

Alternate Concept Idea
This was another concept idea that drew upon the death tarot card that was discussed in, I believe the third act. It played a lot with this over bearing death of an ending. These are just the beginning rough sketches as the concept was not moved forward.

Scene Design 1 Models, Fall 2019
Both are 1/4th scale of a 22' x 16' proscenium.
This design was from the prompted words "column" and "fractured." The main idea for this design came from a tradition in Japan in which broken dishes would be put back together through a gold colored adhesive.

This design is for Come and Go with the influence of Dorothea Lange and her photography. The set reflects her time as a photographer with the sepia tone and the houses she often saw on her journey.
